About Home Lab Tutorials

Welcome to HomeLabTutorials.com, your go to space for hands-on learning, skill building, and community connection in the world of technology.

We believe that the best way to grow as an IT or cybersecurity professional is to build, break, and fix things yourself. That is why we created this site: to help technology professionals at every level get the most out of their home labs. Whether you are setting up your first virtual server, exploring new tools, or simulating complex enterprise scenarios, you will find clear tutorials, practical walkthroughs, and real-world tips you can actually use.

We are more than a website however; we are a community. HomeLabTutorials.com is built by learners and teachers who are passionate about sharing what they know and supporting others on their journey. Everyone is welcome here, whether you are just starting out in IT or you have been in the trenches for years. We do not put up paywalls or require subscriptions. All content is freely accessible because we believe knowledge should be open and shared. The site does cost money to operate, so we try to defray some of the costs through vetted advertisers and sponsors, as well as a “Pay What You Like” model for those that want to forgo their morning cup of joe and redirect that our way.

Our focus is on making complex topics approachable, and giving you the confidence to learn by doing. You will find guides on building out Windows, Linux, and networking stacks, network simulations, security testing, detection engineering, automation projects, and much more… all designed with a home lab in mind.

So dive in, start building, and do not be afraid to get your hands dirty, or even a little bloody. This is where skills grow. This is where careers take shape. This is HomeLabTutorials.com.

Our History and How We Got Here

Like many things in life, the idea for a marketplace for exchanging home lab tutorials came partly from frustration, and partly from being in the right place at the right time. On June 9th, Sean Mitchell posted on LinkedIn about the importance and the benefits of building a home lab. Sean’s post resonated with K.C. and honestly was the Eureka moment, as he was mindlessly scrolling through YouTube listings for something worthwhile. While there are some good ones out there, there are also many bad ones. Feeling frustrated that he could not find a good walkthrough with similar specifications as he was trying to emulate, the idea of a marketplace for home lab specs, walkthroughs, and diagrams began to take shape. After consulting with some trusted confidants, K.C. decided to launch the website and community for wide-scale benefit.

The site is slowly coming to life, and K.C. is beginning to reach out to people in the community to help steer features, direction, and UI. Over the next couple of months, the team will be working very hard to bring you the best possible experience when it comes to building home labs.
